  • Difficulty: How much time, energy, and focus will you need to compete effectively? The questions, application window, allowed (or required) exhibits or demos, and even word count will all determine the effort—and resources—required.

  • Winnability: If you’ve got the right stuff, what are your chances of walking away with an award?

  • Transparency: Are the judging process and winning criteria clear? Can you access scoring details, a judging rubric, list of judges, and/or other specifics? Will you automatically receive—or could you request—feedback on your final result?

3. MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY
